The DUST + project aims to develop composites based on stone powder derived from the residual sludges resulting from the processing of limestone, incorporating hydraulic or polymeric binders. In an initial phase, a new sludge decantation system will be designed to replace the currently used flocculating products with others of biological origin. Concurrently, treatment processes for the sludges will be developed to ensure their compatibility with the binders. Subsequently, the compositions for the new composites will be defined, experimentally studying and optimizing the physical, mechanical performance, and durability of the resulting materials. In particular, specific compositions will be developed to allow the application of the composites through 3D printing and/or projection. There is also an intention to design and project new products that can be manufactured from these new materials and interconnected with natural stone elements, such as reinforcement sublayers, decorative pieces, and urban furniture.

The new composites and products will ultimately be produced in an industrial environment and subjected to an extensive validation campaign of their functional and environmental performance, ensuring the pre-established requirements and the proposed innovation potential.
